Can I sign up for one or both Actions?
The Foundation calls on users of Facebook and/or Instagram to join one or both Actions and to stand up for their rights.
You can sign up for the first action about the illegal processing of personal data if you used Facebook at any time from 1 April 2010 until the present and at that moment resided in the Netherlands. If you belong to this group, you probably also belong to the group of Aggrieved Parties that the Foundation represents in its second action about the transfer of personal data outside of Europe. You can join this second action if you used Facebook and/or Instagram at any time from 25 May 2018 and at that time resided in the Netherlands.
For more information on both Actions please visit our website on Our Actions and Consumentenbond’s website
How does your participation work and what does it mean?
You can sign up for the Actions via the registration form on the website of Consumentenbond Claimservice. With your registration you support the Foundation and its Action(s) and you can claim compensation. You stand up for your rights and make your voice heard against Meta. You can register if you are 16 years or older. If you are under 18, please ask your parents/guardians for permission before signing up.
After your registration, you will receive a verification email and a unique file will be created for you in ‘My file’ via the website of Consumentenbond Claimservice. You will be asked to fill in further details and to digitally sign the confirmation of engagement. In doing so, you enter into an agreement with it and instruct Data Privacy Stichting to claim compensation on your behalf. You will receive confirmation of this by email.
What does it cost to participate?
There are no costs for aggrieved parties to participate in the Actions against Meta. Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, LLP, the Funder, has agreed to fund the Actions on a “no cure, no pay” basis. Only if a positive outcome is achieved and compensation is awarded to you, up to 18% of that amount will be deducted, plus expenses. If no result is achieved, you do not have to pay anything.
Can I withdraw from one or both Actions?
It is possible to withdraw from the Actions. You can unsubscribe by sending an e-mail to vragen@claimservice.nl and include ‘Cancel Facebook agreement’ in the subject. You do not need to provide a reason for your withdrawal.
If you withdraw within 60 days, this will have no consequences. If you withdraw more than 60 days after your registration, you will owe part of the agreed ‘no cure, no pay’ compensation, but only if a positive result is ultimately achieved, resulting in compensation being awarded to you. For this, please consult the conditions in your participant agreement. You can find these in your digital file on the website of Consumentenbond Claimservice.
