Privacy and data security

In modern society, smartphones, computers, vehicles loaded with technology, fitness devices, and apps are a part of our everyday life. The companies that engineer these technologies process our data, including our messages and information about our location and other activities. That information is valuable. Corporations use it in many ways to secure their power in the marketplace. Personal data can be used for political purposes, to manipulate our choices, and to attract advertisers. Big Tech companies like Meta (owner of Facebook and Instagram, among others) intrude upon our private affairs and violate our privacy on a large scale by deliberately misusing our personal data.

Dutch and European laws and regulations aim to protect the fundamental right to privacy. However, it is virtually impossible for consumers to take on Big Tech companies like Meta (including Facebook and Instagram) on their own. Regulators, too, do not always have the capacity or resources to effectively stand up to systematic violations.

Consumers have a right to compensation

Meta made billions of dollars by unlawfully processing its users’ personal data and broke the law to make a profit. As a result, users have lost control and authority over their own data. They are at risk of future misuse of their data. Meta’s abusive practices have curtailed users’ freedom of choice and invaded their privacy.

Data Privacy Stichting (“the Foundation”) and Consumentenbond want to ensure that Meta compensates consumers in the Netherlands for all harmful consequences.

That’s why Data Privacy Stichting is taking action. It protects the privacy rights of consumers. The Data Privacy Stichting already initiated two actions against Meta. Get involved and sign up.

What We Do

The Data Privacy Stichting (“the Foundation”) is a Dutch non-profit foundation established to effectively protect universal privacy rights. The Foundation represents consumers in the Netherlands who have been harmed by Meta’s (Facebook and/or Instagram) violations of privacy and consumer rights. The Foundation has joined forces with Consumentenbond.

You can find out more about the Foundation’s purpose in its articles of association, which can be accessed on this website under ‘Documents.’ Visit ‘About Us‘ for more information on the partnerships of the Foundation. Visit ‘Aggrieved Parties‘ for more information about the actions and who we represent.
